12.3

I am getting so bored.

I really cannot wait for Kelowna, and to get a freaking job! I'm going crazy, watching old seasons of CSI.

Which, you know, is alright, because I like CSI. But I'd like something more constructive to do with my time.  I'm so bored, and my sleep schedule is all messed up... (And I'm dead.)

Anyways, today's song is Cecilia, covered by Local Natives Band. You all know how I love my Simon and Garfunkel. Your mum and I were listening to it last night right before we...[censored]... and then woke up and went to the beach.

12.2

My mom spilled wine on my favorite flannel sheets! Uuuuurgh.

She got a call from the hospital today - officially got the job. So she was celebrating. Hence the wine. Le sigh.

I made pancakes this morning (technically yesterday, being Monday.) We saved the left-over batter, though, so I just had a couple more. Midnight snack. And we still have batter left. I likey the pancakes.

Anyways, today's song is one you prooobably haven't heard in a while. I was considering an N'Sync cover (maybe some other time) but decided to go with Destiny's Child. So, for the second day of the youtube covers, I give you Survivor, covered by the lovely and talented Julia Nunes.

If you would like to hear Julia's N'Sync cover (of Bye Bye Bye), you can just go to it now. See how I make everything so easy and accessible for you guys? It's probably enabling you to be lazy, which is probably a bad thing. But hey, I'm all for enabling bad habits! Within reason, of course.

12.1

We have another themed week.

I bet Alex is expecting a Christmas week. But alas, no.

We've had youtube originals, but this week is going to be youtube covers. One of my favorite passtimes is going on youtube and listening to covers of songs I love. I am sharing that with you lovely people. And we are going to start this week off right, with a cover of Single Ladies by Pomplamoose.

Childhood Trauma.

I don't think I've told anyone this before. But I posted it on my Tumblr blog a few days ago. I guess I am finally ready to share it. This is just one of the stories of my childhood that have made me into the bitter, cynical person I am today.

We were out at lunch time, on the last week of school, playing in
the trees on the edge of the school property, me and Cass. We were best
friends. Some of the other kids were playing Red Rover, which was one
of our favorite games, but we were otherwise engaged. One of the girls
from our class had found a caterpillar the day before. We were so in
awe of this that we decided to search for our own caterpillar.

Cass and I searched high and low through those trees. They spanned
the whole length of the property, from one end of the lot to the other.
We did not grow bored, and we did not tire of this daunting task. We
were determined to each find a caterpillar that we could bring to class
and brag about, as the other girl had done the day before. We were kept
cool from the shade of the trees as we ran around, trying to catch
sight of just one caterpillar.

And then, finally! Finally, I had found a caterpillar! I called
Cassandra over, and we gushed excitedly about our discovery. She had
never found a caterpillar before. And neither had I. But when the bell
rang, and Cassandra still had not found a caterpillar of her very own,
I had a small argument with myself within the confines of my mind. I
needed an idea to cheer her up. After all, she was my best friend, and
I had been taught right, to be kind; To share.

I told Cassandra that I would share my caterpillar with her. She
could take it home that day, then bring it back the next day, so I
could take it home. We would switch. She beamed at this idea, grateful
to have such a wonderful friend. If I had not been so awed by the fact
that I had found a caterpillar all by myself, I would have let her keep
him. But I was proud of my caterpillar. I wanted to show my new friend
to my mom.

My mom would be excited to learn that I had made a friend so close
to the end of the year. Of course, she would only be excited because I
would come home with a large grin on my face. I was going to go home
and tell her all about my new caterpillar. But he was a secret. She
wouldn’t get to see him until the day after. Cassandra got to take him
home today.

So the bell signalled the end of classes, and we all rushed out,
backpacks stuffed haphazardly with homework, binders, and the latest in
walkman technology. I waved goodbye to Cassandra, and little Cody, as
we had decided to name him. I pet Cody, told him I would see him
tomorrow, and he could meet my mom. I could tell he was excited.

When I got to school the next day, I met Cassandra in the morning,
as we waited for the doors to open. I asked about Cody. She told me she
had left him at home. She apologized profusely. I simply smiled, told
her it was no big deal. After all, it wasn’t. Everyone made mistakes.
What kind of friend would I be if I did not forgive her?

The next day, however, Cassandra had forgotten Cody again. She told
me she was sorry, but this time my smile was reluctant and my
acceptance of her apology was rather forced. We had made an agreement.
We were supposed to take turns with Cody! And we had both promised to
be there from the moment he made his cocoon to the moment he became a
butterfly. Once Cody became a butterfly, we would release him. Our
young selves were naive, and Cassandra was a little selfish.

I had offered to share my caterpillar with her! My caterpillar! And
here she was, pretending to have forgotten to bring him. I knew
Cassandra well, and I knew when she was lying. She did not want me to
have Cody. She wanted to keep him all to herself. My sister had spoken
of her backstabbing friends before, but I had never believed my friends
would do any of those things to me. Oh, had I been wrong.

The last day of school came quickly, and Cassandra and I were still
friends. My fourth-grade self wanted to believe that third-grade
Cassandra would be there for me. I wanted to believe that she would
surprise me with Cody on the last day of school. I had faith in my
friend. I knew she would not let me down.

But on the last day of school, Cassandra told me that Cody had built
a cocoon and he would probably become a butterfly. She would probably
go home from school, and he would be a pretty butterfly. I asked to
come over, to see this transformation. But Cassandra was grounded. She
was not allowed to have friends over that day. So she said goodbye and
headed off in the direction of home.

The next year, when I returned to that school, Cassandra and I were no longer friends.

Partial side-note: We eventually ended up going to the same high school, my senior year. We passed each other in the halls a lot, but we ignored each other every time.

11.7

Aaahhhhhhh. So tired.

I just packed over half my room up. Kelowna is coming up soon so we panicked a little today and crammed/packed things up. I don't know how mom and Joe are doing, but I have no books left (except the one I need to give back to Hailey) and the ones I need for Sunday. And I have almost no clothes left. Left some t-shirts and a couple nice shirts, and some skirts and shoes. But I packed up my comfortable shoes (no long walks for me). I packed up my CDs, my random junk that can't really be labelled, and some hair products and tools.

I threw out probably half my clothes (filled a whole garbage bag, very sad). And I threw out a bunch of other stuff, I'm FINALLY getting rid of that super old CD player. We're giving my TV to Kelley, Adrienne, and Connor because they don't have anything after leaving my dad's. And they get my DVD player, and... my VCR. I am very sad about it. They also get both my boxes of Disney VHS's, because I will not need it when I have no VCR. Le sigh.

I have two boxes sitting in my room that haven't been stacked to the top but I don't know what to put in them. One is almost full, but I need to fill in the spaces in between and around my prom shoes. The other is my last box of books (making seven, I think). Yeaaaah.

I just wish I had an extra guitar case, because I don't want either of them getting wrecked in the move. Well, one is already wrecked, but I don't want to damage it any more. I probably won't notice because I haven't actually picked either of them up since I moved into this room and placed them in the corner of my room. That's sad. I need to start playing guitar again.

I know I usually have slooow songs on Sunday, but I'm changing it up a bit. It's still uplifting, and it's about time I had a Michael Buble song, because I am enjoying his new album a lot. Except I feel like I've heard them all before. Are they all covers? Ah, just checked. There are two original songs. That makes sense now. Anywho, I have decided upon Haven't Met You Yet because I absolutely adore it.

Oh, Michael. I'm right here.

11.6

Happy Saturday, folks.

I hope you're all well and enjoying your weekends.

I was going to be getting a Mac for Christmas, but it's not going to happen. I am a bit happy about this but obviously quite sad. So if I randomly stop going on the internet one day, it's because my stupid computer has given up the ghost.

My family is watching Religulous right now. Meaning Kelley, Adrienne, Joe, and mom. I watched for half an hour but it's boring. So I'm doing this instead. Which will probably only buy me five minutes. So I'll waste time playing Solitaire until someone comes on Skype. Meaning Shoshana, if she remembers.

I want to try out Omegle but that's rather awkward. I was on for a few minutes and the conversation went like this:
Stranger: binoculars
You: ...fish?
Stranger: arwana
You have left the conversation

So basically they hook you up with some random stranger and you start a conversation. I did not know how to respond to "arwana" so I exited that pretty quick. I mean, I'm not going to sit around all day and list different types of fish.

I have better things to do. Like NaNoWriMo. Which sucks. I think I will re-tackle the same story for NaNoWriMo next year. Right now, I just want to get to 50,000 and be done with it. Although I still might write that love song for Ashley because it might be fun. Anyways. After this long post, you probably only care about the song of the day. Sorry.

It's Please Stay by Duffy, because it's been stuck in my head for days.

11.5

This is strange new territory for me.

I have to think of a song on the spot, for the second day in a row. I don't like to be unprepared.

Nonetheless, I have just the song. Paul commented on my wall on thesixtyone (being almost the only one who comments on my wall regularly) and told me that Their There finally signed up, but because he discovered a song that day, he wasn't allowed to heart them. So I max-hearted them (Right now,  my limit is seven) so he can heart them now, too.

So the song thye have posted on thesixtyone will be the song of the day. It's called Scientific Dogs, so click this sentence.

Oh, and, biiiiig news to tell Alex and Shosh. Tell you both Sunday. If I still have access to a computer after. (Suspense? I do the best I can)

Enjoy your weekends. And the song. I know I already posted something by them, but ooooh well.

11.4

So for the first time ever, I think, I don't have a song planned.

This will be fun, getting to think up a new song for you. While I'm thinking, I'll write something else.

My Thursday video may not be up today. Kasey might be switching days with me. Or she's switching days with Anna. But I don't think she'll see Anna's post until tomorrow, so she's probably taking over my Thursdays *intense sobbing commences* and then I'll be... Monday. Okay, found a song.

I was searching for something by the New York Summer, but saw Tyler Hilton somewhere, which reminded me of this duet he did with Bethany Joy Lenz on One Tree Hill. The song is called When the Stars go Blue, which is originally by Tim McGraw. That's not today's song. It just reminded me of a Bethany Joy Lenz song called Halo. Just explaining the process of how I arrived at this song. Although, WTSGB is a good song, so I'll just leave it at the end. If you're up for it.

11.3

So I don't have a lot of time tonight.

My internet is messed up. Instead of having wireless in my bedroom, I have to go to the living room, which sucks. There are no blankets in here :(

NaNoWriMo - somewhere around 15000. I need to step it up.

Anyways, today's song has been stuck in my head for a while. And I want to sing it every time I send letters.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours by Stevie Wonder.

Just realized it's also Remembrance Day. So, it's past eleven now. But make time to have a moment of silence, even if it's not until 11 pm.

11.2

Hooray.

I know I've already mentioned this, but I am so excited to move to K-town. I don't know if any of you have been there, but it's so flippin gorgeous. Ahh, flip. Every time I see that word, I imagine Elder Van Pelt punching me. Good movie.

So anywho, not a lot going on. Went through some stuff in my room today. Sorted my crap out. I have less than three weeks to pack. And we're hoping Kelley, Connor, and Adrienne can take the house over when we leave. It'd be the perfect size for them. And closer to work for Connor and Kelley. Plus my mom already has a job lined up for Adrienne.

Alex and Shosh, you might remember (or not) the family photo montage we used to have in our house? All those pictures of us as kids, like twenty of them, in one frame? No? Well, anyways, when we were at my dad's on Sunday, I took that. Then I removed all the pictures of him and put in new ones of us as kids. Now it's full of happy things.

Okay, so today's song is lovely. It's West Coast by Coconut Records and I just luuurv it. Sidenote - remember that Thursday video I did in the bathtub, where I wore the nose strip? Well, I figured out how those things work. I'm wearing one now. Thought you should know.

Another sidenote - In order to finish by the 25th, which is when the bet ends, I need to be at 18,000 by now. I'm at 13 something. Gotta step it up. But I think Ashley's computer died and her stuff was deleted anyways, so I think the bet may be off. BACK TO THE SONG-
 Have a lovely Tuesday, everyone.

11.1

So, I found this song because I love Noah and the Whale.
Plus, I'm subscribed to artscrafts on youtube (which is the label they're on. Stars is on the same label.)
therefore artscrafts = awesomeness. See, I totally learned something in math class...

Ya know? one of those... stars = awesome, noah and the whale = awesome. NatW and Stars are on the label artsandcrafts. Is Arts and Crafts awesome?

Those were the only questions I got right. Le sigh.

Anywho, today's song is Noah and the Whale's NEW SINGLE, Love of an Orchestra. Tis lovely. Especially the old man.

10.7

Okay, so lots going on today.

But it's not blog material. So sorry, everyone. Alex, Shosh, I will for sure tell you guys tonight.

All anyone else needs to know is.... this might be good news. But it still sucks.

And Alex... I mailed your letter this weekend. But I just realized, this moment, that I did not put a stamp on it. So I will probably be receiving it back tomorrow (around one or two pm because our new mail man sucks). Then I'll mail it on Monday night, haha. Sorry about that.

Today's song is Honey let me sing you a song by Matt Hires. I could only find a live version. And the only good live version is short. If you want to hear the full version, go here.

10.6

Today's full of videoooos. Deal.

So today (still being Friday), my mum and I took a road trip (kind of) up to Kelowna.

She had that IRL interview I was telling you about. She has orientation on December first at 8 am.

WE'RE MOVING TO KELOWNA! So stoked.

But not so stoke-worthy: I lost my phone. It was either at a gas station in Merritt, or at some McDonalds where I stopped to pee. Those are the only times I left the car after the hospital, the last place I remembered having it. So yeah, no cell. Kind of sucks. As for the skype thing this Sunday Alex, just sign onto skype at 8:45 or something and we'll add you in when it's time.

So, last week, when I was saying something to Alex about her and Shosh being so far away, my mind automatically went (So faaaaaar away. Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore? It would be so fine to see your face at my dooooor.) Which is why today's song is So Far Away by Carole King. I'm also including the clip from Reba where she sang it for her ex-boyfriend (she left him for Brock and hadn't spoken to him in probably 20 years) who recently died. I cried. Yeah, make your jokes. I'm off to write more for NaNoWriMo.

OHHHH, and here's my Thursday video.

10.5

I kind of thought it was Friday yesterday.

Silly me.

NaNoEMO update by Luke Conard:
Trying to get Kristina Horner to join NaNoEMO by just smothering our Gchat conversations with sad face EMOticons.

Lovely. I need to go to sleep soon (it won't happen. I'll go to bed around 2 or 3 am, as usual) because mum's waking me up tomorrow at seven am. WOOOT. We're going up to my gran's, to stop in for a couple seconds, steal her van, then head up to Kelowna. My mum's got an IRL interview at Kelowna General so I'll be up there for the day, partying with my mum. Maybe I'll steal the van and go to Vanderhoof? Nah. Too long of a drive. Plus there's that illegal part...

Today's song is Crazy Ever After by the Rescues. It's another song that I discovered because it was on the homepage of thesixtyone.

NaNo Word Count: 10411. But after I post this, I'm going to write more. After my pilates/movie session. Not the pilates movie, because Mari Winsor freaks the crap outta me. I watch a movie so I don't notice the excruciating effort pilates now takes me. It used to be a breeze. I guess this is what happens when you're without a PE class.

Apparently this song was also on Grey's Anatomy. Bonus.

10.4

I'm at dad's today for Kelley's birthday.

Everyone is asleep so I'm typing slowly and quietly. It blows.

I saw Where the Wild Things Are - so good! I really liked how it wasn't a conventional children's movie. And how it was about relationships and friendships and ah! So amazing.

Anyways. More on NaNoEMO, Luke's progress as of late:
My last 24: food, cry, bed, shower, food, cry, bed.

Went to Hot Topic (obviously) for #NaNoEMO month

He's wonderful. Anyways, today's song is by a band I have loved for years. Sadly, however, I forgot about them for a while up until a couple weeks ago. Falling in love all over again. >E

The Hero Dies in This One by The Ataris.

10.3

Okay, so this song is old news.

But I just remembered it and how much I used to love it. And all the good times associated with this song, like screaming it down the halls of Yale with a friend XD

It's Cute Without the 'e' by Taking Back Sunday. I know, the name is emo. BUUUT lucky for us, it's the month of NaNoEMO. NaNoEMO was a great idea by Luke Conard (The guy from All Caps. Which is where his cred comes from. And his own band, but who cares about that?)

He tweeted his progress about it earlier. I will share:
How's everyones NanoEMO projects coming along? Today, I looked in the mirror and said "I hate you."

He's amazing.

ANYWAYS. TO THE SONG. This video is weird. Don't watch it if you're epileptic. I claim no responsibilty for death or seizure. Or any combination of the two.

Monday, November 2, 2009

10.2

WriMo Word Count at the end of Day Two: 9,302. Only 40,698 more to go.

It is Tuesdaaaaaay.

Yes. Erm.

Uh. So I don't really have a lot to say except that I hate NaNoWriMo so far. I ditched today to read a book. But then I finished the book and had too much time before bed. So I started writing again. *Sigh*

It is going to kill me. I only recently paused for food - a few hours late, and to write this blog post for you lovely people :)

Today's song is I Miss You by Blink 182. If you don't know the reason why, you're a bit dumb. It's because I miss my friends. Alex and Shoshana, that means youuu. I miss seeing you all the time for seminary or at school, at youth, and on Sundays. I miss having random sleepovers in tents after dances. I miss knowing you'd be there if I ever needed you like before. And I just miss seeing your faces. Your lovely, lovely faces. But I am glad we have weekly chats about juice and other important (and non-important) things. I am counting down the months until our sweet reunion (eight, in case you're wondering).

10.1

Wow. Into week ten now. Feels strange.

Hope you all had a nice Halloween. From what I hear, you guys had lots of fun. Today's song is so amazing.

The story behind the song is really awesome, but it would take me a while to explain it. Here's the short version.

Anyways, it's called I've Got Nothing and it's by the ChartJackers. It's a lame video, but what else can you expect when a bunch of people from youtube with lame ideas send videos in and the guys involved in the project are too nice not to use them?

Blah. Job hunting today.

PEE ESS. NaNoWriMo count after Day One: 7401. In order to get 50,000 words by the 30th, you need to do an average of 1,667 words a day. I'd say I'm doing pretty well.

Raccoons

So, I realize that this will seem like one of those crazy stories that just can't be true, they're too unreal.

BUT THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED.

It was Halloween. Meaning last night. My friend Hailey was coming over to watch a couple movies and eat candy. That was the extent of my Halloween plans. We had no trick or treaters, it kind of sucked. But that's not part of this story.

There was this raccoon that used to always come to our living room window and just sit there on the patio, watching us. We all felt so terrible for these raccoons because they were giving us the puppy dog eyes better than an actual puppy dog. So one night, my mom fed this raccoon.

Then a few nights later, it came back. WITH THREE OTHER RACCOONS. My mom fed them all eggs. I guess they like eggs. They basically just crack it open in one spot and then suck the egg out. My mom kept feeding them eggs whenever they came back.

At one point during the night of Halloween, she actually said "The raccoons haven't been back in a while. I'm worried about them. I wonder what happened to those other three," etc, blah blah blah.

Then I saw the raccoon. So I got the eggs. I fed it two. We just open the sliding door a little bit and roll the eggs out to these raccoons, usually. I did this. The raccoon gratefully ate these eggs. Then I was putting the eggs away and my mum said that two usually wasn't enough, this raccoon would always eat three eggs. So I took another one out and went back to the living room. After the raccoon ate those two eggs, it came to stand by the sliding glass door.

Just staring. So I figured it was time for its third egg.

I opened the sliding glass door to roll this next egg out to the raccoon, and IT FREAKING BIT ME!

I mean, whatever happened to the expression "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" ?

Maybe that's where it came from. Anyways. I kicked the egg out at it and slammed the door.

Hailey was laughing because I kept saying "The raccoon bit me."

Then I went into the kitchen where my mom and Joe still were and I told them that this raccoon bit me. So my mum took me into the bathroom and kept pouring peroxyde on it. Then she went onto the patio where this freaking raccoon was just calmly eating this third egg (THE AUDACITY!)

And she chased it off, yelling that no raccoon got away with biting her daughter, and the like.

Then Hailey proceeded to make raccoon jokes for the rest of her stay.

Still... Best. Halloween. Ever.

9.7

NaNoWriMo starts today.
And don't forget to change your clocks back.
Hailey says hi.
Today's song is Halloween by Meg and Dia. And I'm also posting a cover of the song by sisters Catrien and Dixie Maxwell, because I think it's amazing.
Have a nice Sunday. :)

Friday, October 30, 2009

9.6

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I am so excited for today's song!

Mainly because I had never heard it until a certain Halloween dance with a few of my best friends, who absolutely loved this song. And I like it too. By now, you probably know what it is (those of you who were there), especially given that it's Halloween. If you don't, it is Monster Mash by Bobby Pickett!

Happy Halloween, everyone. Be safe. Don't get too drunk. (Shoshana, Alex, that means you.)

And NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow! Alex, I totally get what you're saying about the phonetics. Everyone says it "ree".

Ahh. So good.

Thursday, October 29, 2009

9.5

Craaaap.

I just realized that I've been posting all of week ten's song instead of week nine's.

*Sigh*

Monday's song was the right one. Then Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, fail.

SOOO. I'm just going to post the RIGHT ones for the rest of the week, and switch it around for next week. Dang.

Anyways. Today's song is one I haven't heard in a while. It's not the same unless I'm running in circles in gym class, dying, Shoshana by my side. (No, it's not Cyclone. Although that would have been a good one too)

It is Fergalicious. Yeah. I was going to post the video, but... it's really not something you need to see again.

PS my Thursday video (late) can be found here.

9.4

I'm at my dad's so I didn't have time until now to get on the computer.

The title for my NaNoWriMo novel has been chosen. I'm going with 101 Pick-Up Lines because I think it's hilarious and Shosh and Ashley both picked it as their favorite. So, win-win-win.

Haha. Office reference, FTW. If it's not going to be too annoying for you, I'll be posting my word count every day so you can congratulate or berate me accordingly.

Today's song is The Saltwater Room by Owl City.

Have a nice Thursday. Also, I'm not even sure if this is the real song of the week. It's just what I'm listening to right now. If it isn't the song, I'll just change it on the piece of paper.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

9.3

And again, it is Wednesday

Today's song isn't on youtube. I found it on t61.com.

You can find it here. Anyways, it's called This is For You and it's by David Dunn. I'm liking it.

ALSO ALEX, ARE YOU A PENCIL?

Monday, October 26, 2009

9.2

It is now Tuesday

And Ashley has decided to cheat on her NaNoWriMo story. Just for a day, because she's going to miss it for work.

I think I'll join her. Hailey is coming over on Halloween and spending the night. So I imagine I'll be missing most of the first day of WriMo so I'm going to cheat alongside Ashley. Just for a day. I am giving myself twenty four hours and then I will not be able to start NaNoWriMo until the second of November. Which is just as well, because I have to shave my legs extensively on November first, in order to take part of No-Shave November. Funnily enough, when you go to that link, I'm the last person to comment on that page, haha. So I also took part in that last year, avec Shoshana. It was fun. I enjoyed wearing tights with every skirt.

OH. And. I put out a plea for help on Twitter, and I got a lot of messages (six) with ideas for my NaNoWriMo title. So I'm going to put them below. Pick a favorite and a least favorite.

Taller Children ( I think the idea for that would be even though they're adults, people still act like kids? I like the idea, but I think it would be misleading.)

101 Pick Up Lines (HAHAHAHA)

A Lost Battle (I think the person meant as in `lost the battle, win the war` kinda thing)

In our Neighborhood/Our Neighborhood (which could work)

The Only Exception (doesn`t really work, but I love the song)

Reunion (works. But is too obvious, I think. Because I did use a line from that song for `inspiration` or whatever)

(I think three, maybe four of these are songs. I know three are for sure. And I like all these songs. Thanks for picking up on that, Twitter followers.)

Anyways. Today's song is... uh. Where did my paper go? Okay. Maybe I'm In by Sequoyah Prep School.

PS my mum's listening to Alanis right now. Thought you'd enjoy that....

Sunday, October 25, 2009

9.1

So...
Happy Week Nine, by the way.

Today's song is Two Is Better Than One by Boys Like Girls ft. Taylor Swift. (Which freaked me out when I heard her. I didn't know she was in it).

Alex... in regards to your Halloween costume... is it a pen? Or any type of writing/drawing implement?

The Smiles

So at some point, I might have mentioned (IRL, not OTI) Will Sturgeon.

And how much I'm in love with him.

Well, his band The Smiles is on the front page of this website.

What's really awesome about this particular site (other than amazing music) is that it actually takes about ten seconds to sign up, AND you can click any link, but the music will keep playing no matter where you go on the site.

And the artists that post songs will usually make about 7 dollars per album (rather than 1-2).

And you can build playlists on this site, by saving songs, and then you can listen to them over and over. And you can build up a reputation if you "heart" a song and it does well. (equivalent of FB liking, but with the possibility of site-cred). You can also build a reputation by inviting people. So if you do join, say that I sent you (myshangrila) and I'll get some site-cred, to match my street cred.

That's pretty much all I had to say about this. Also, that Mario Kart Love Song is in the "top songs" section of the website. For obvious reasons, I mean, come on!

EDIT: It's also things like this that make me love the site: Hidari is a three-piece band from Kobe, Japan that fuses the sound of raw asparagus with that of rutabaga to create a truly unique type of half-tuber, half-shoot hybrid that is as nutritious as it is bewitching.

An Indecent Proposal

So I was reading my friend Ashley's blog. And she mentioned a few posts ago when her kinda friend stole her mood ring and then later proposed to her.

It reminded me of the time I was proposed to.

So, you guys (Alex and Shosh) might remember my sixteenth birthday party and the awesome people I had there (and the not so awesome). And I'm certain that you'll remember Steven because everyone liked him the most. And I agree, he's hilarious.

Anyways. That was also the year that I went crazy with all the free time I had and so I made lots of food.

Spinach dip in that bread bowl, sausage rolls, samosas, cake, etc. And then I also had chips and pop and what-not.

Steven found out that I had made it all myself and so he took my hand, got down on one knee in front of our friends, and asked me to marry him. It was a little problematic because I already had that gold tiger's eye ring on my finger, so he had to take it off and put it back on and everything.

Naturally, I was laughing hysterically (and still want to, every time I think about), and my friend Becka tried to take a picture or video, but he was done and he stood up. Then I was still laughing (I accepted, in case you're wondering) and then Becka came up to me asking if that was serious.

And I was like "Yes, Becka. Steven and I are actually going to get married..."

And then I saw him again a couple months later and mentioned something about him being my fiancee and he was all "you remembered! I thought you had forgotten about us!"

Good times. I think the only thing that topped that, in the case of birthdays, was the silly string incident with Shoshana the year after. And the ocean the same year. Oh, man.

8.7

It is Sunday, and this marks the end of Week 8.
Been a long time.

Today's song can't be posted on the blog because it is not on youtube. But it is on his myspace.

Also, Alex, you definitely already have this song.

It's Heart Hurts by Jordan West. I think it's actually the first one on his myspace player list. :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Alex and Shoshana, I'll talk to you tonight.

PS I added my Twitter to the blog. So even if you guys don't have Twitter, you'll know what I'm talking about there. It should be on the right hand side, above my "about me" thing.

Okay, so Firefox keeps crashing.

It won't stay open for more than two minutes, so I'm on Internet Explorer for the first time since I actually got my computer (and that ws just so I could download Mozilla).

So I don'thave ScribeFire, meaning I can't embed the video.

For this I apologize.

I am currently watching The Best Two Years. Love this movie.

ANYWAYS. The song of the week is Feel it in My Bones by Tiesto (featuring Tegan and Sara).

But it's pretty much just Tegan and Sara set to different music.

Have an awesome Saturday, guys.

DID I TELL YOU ABOUT VIVIAN DARKBLOOM YET?

I've told all of facebook. CLICK THIS FOR AWESOME MUSIC. I joined the street team and long story short because they're awesome, I'm getting a free tee shirt! It's just black and says Vivian Darkbloom BUT STILL. I am loving this.

I'm thinking I told you this already. Something about the purple coyote? Oh well.

Go to their page. It's not the song of the day, but it's definitely worth mentioning. Also, Paul provided me with Their There videos on youtube. Remember them? Friday of last week? Here's a song: CLICK.

Also, my Thursday video is up, if you're interested.

Today's song is Robsessed. A parody of Miley Cyrus' song Obsessed, by Amy Kuney. It's really just about the video.

I love her. So much.

Okay, the reason I chose yesterday's song was so I could say this:

It's the Day After Tomorrow.

Not really. I actually just thought of that. It was a lame thought, but I don't have anyone else to share my lameness with.

Today's song is Mario Kart Love Song by Sam Hart. According to iTunes, I've listened to it 94 times since I downloaded it. On Sunday. Paul sent me the link to ensure I had an awesome song stuck in my head at all times. Also to ensure that whatever song is top of my iTunes playlist (currently Amy Kuney, with 319 plays) will now be this one. It's working.

Sigh. But I love the nerdy songs.

8.3

It is Wednesday.

And I realize that on Wednesday I usually have upbeat, awesome songs to make it less of a drag. Maybe you didn't notice it...

But, alas, today's is not so. It is what Alex would call a song you listen to when you're walking home in the rain. How's uni?

Shosh, how are the old people?

Anyone else... how's life? What have you been up to?

It's a long story how I decided upon this song, but the bottom line is that I have chosen and it is final. And you can't make fun of me. Well, you can. But don't. This is from her first CD. The good one.

Anywhooo, it's Tomorrow by Avril Lavigne. (Also, I know Canadian Music Week is over, but oh well.)

8.2

I'm at my dad's...
yay.

Alex, you already have this song.

But no one else does! At least, the people that read my blog don't...

It's Maybe I Will by Julia Nunes

AMAGASH! NO WAY! Get it? I'm one of those annoying talking ads.

IT'S MONDAY.

Your mum's still at my house.

My mum has a phone interview with Kelowna General today, so send your good ju-ju. Then I can move. Again. Yippee.

Shosh, hope the old people are treating you well. Call for a ride on Sunday,  ya bum. Remember what you said to me, rationalization leads to excommunication. Words of Wisdom, my friend. So stop being lazy and call.

Alex, I hope you had a nice lie-in. You probably slept in way later than me. I am excited for your letter. I've written PANSED out for you. For four weeks, because the letter exchange this time took a while.

Today's song is one of my favorites off the new Paramore album. I always like the slow ones, because I'm a sap for slow jams and love songs. It's the girliest thing about me. Other than crying at the end of My Girl. And Lord of the Rings. SHUT UP, IT WAS SAD WHEN FRODO LEFT. I GOT EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED.

Also, I don't think My Girl counts, because that is the only movie in existence (so far) that makes my brother cry. And he's 2 years older than me.

Anyways, again, it's by Paramore, and it's called The Only Exception. :)

7.7

It is Sunday

and I don't have a lot of time, because I need to go sleepies soon. Otherwise, I might sleep in. And I don't want that.

So today's song is Everything I Do by Bryan Adams. It's super cheesy but reminds me of good times. And that is the end of Canadian Music week.

7.6

It does not feel like Saturday.

Also, I was going to do an Alanis song, as a joke, but I don't think I could take it.

Soo today's song is by Sloan, and it's called The Rest of My Life.

Le sigh. I just love them.

Also, something to start your day off nicely: CLICK HERE.

Have a nice weekend

7.5

I totally didn't know it was Friday...

I was going to have a Tegan and Sara song, but I've already done one, and I think in light of this week's theme, Canadian Music, you need to hear something new.

That is why today's song, or rather, artist, is Their There. The reason it's the artist is because they're not really on youtube.
I mentioned them on my Sunday post. This is the good Their There. From White Rock.

Here's their myspace. <--click on it. Do it. DO IT. *Sigh* Don't make me come down there. Just click it. Thank you.

7.4

So a couple weeks ago when I figured out some Canadian artists for PANSED, I picked a random one that was mediocre.

Then some random person (read: my friend Paul) told me all about these amazing Canadian bands. So I'm substituting one of the awesome ones and just re-writing my list. Which I've never done before. But I need to.

Today's song is Take and Send by Char2D2 (LOL@Star Wars reference)

PS My Dollar Giant idea was totally shot down. Apparently I don't want to work there. So pretty much, my only other option is the bowling alley and some old lady shoe stores. I hear Choices Market is pretty boss, but it's really far from where I live. Lame.

7.3

'Tis Wednesday once more.

Meaning I`ll probably be making a video tonight so I can post it tomorrow.

And I went on Saturday to drop off a resume at the Shoe Warehouse. They haven`t called yet, so I`m going to start looking for some other job on Monday. Probably Dollar Giant. They`re usually the sluts of the employment world. They`ll hire me.

Anyways... today`s song is by an artist we`ve heard before on PANSED FA, but not yet on PANSED FAAS.

So, without further ado, it is called Reunion and it is by Stars! Whom I love.

Also, I shall be e-mailing you some songs tonight.

TUESDAY!!!

How was Thanksgiving? Mine was alright, except for my dad getting extremely angry for no reason (multiple times). But what else is new?

At least the Thanksgiving with my mom was alright.

Today's song is Spirit of Radio by Rush. I really enjoy it. I don't know if you guys will. Oh well.

7.1

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

In the original of this post, I wrote you a lot of random stuff, but it's on my computer and I'm at my dad's.

All I know is that this is another themed week (Canadian Music) and that today's song is Rebellion (Lies) by The Arcade Fire.

Also, I remember I was going to tell you that my favorite memory of THIS SONG by them is when Beth and I used to do dishes and play music really loudly. This was one of the songs.

And crappy lame links instead, so click HERE.

6.7

WOOOOT.

Last night was awesome. Paul picked me up at like, 5:30, and the doors opened at 6:30. We got there in twenty minutes so we stood around and talked to the guys from Their There. Then we went inside and waited around for an hour for the bands to start. The guys from Behind Sapphire (Matt and Grant) and the guys from Casino Junction (Joe and Steve Ward) got up on stage with a bunch of other people and they all sang Wake Up by The Arcade Fire. It's the song from the trailer of Where the Wild Things Are. Awesome.

Then Their There started their set and they were amazing! So much better than I anticipated. I'll tell you why. I just found out about them being there today, so I went to their myspace. It was an indie band from Pennsylvania and I thought it was weird they'd be playing such a small show out here but they had small shows in Calgary and stuff so I figured they were doing a small tour to get their name out. They had a girl lead singer, but her voice was kind of weak, and they weren't very good overall. So I didn't know why Paul was such a huge fan.

Then I found out (at the show) that they were from White Rock... so there's another band called Their There...
But the ones that I saw last night were flippin' amazing! Then it was Behind Sapphire, and Casino Junction usually does sets with them anyways, so they were onstage for a lot of that, helping them out with vocals and instruments and stuff.

Then it was Casino Junction, and it was really bittersweet because Joe is leaving for his mission soon and all that stuff. So they were having the CD release party. They told us at the end that they knew we were excited for the CD. They said we rocked, and we were awesome, but UPS wasn't awesome. They said they'd have the CDS by Wednesday, then they didn't come. So it was going to be Friday, and they didn't come. Then they said Saturday, noon, promise.

So the Wards went down to the States and waited all day for something that didn't come.

Anyways, they sorted it out saying they had pre-order forms and then the guys of Behind Sapphire would mail them out to us when they got here. Joe tried to cheer us up by saying we'd all get to hear the CD before he did.

That was depressing, but hey, he's going on a mission. Speaking of which, Matt and Grant did the best cover of "I hope they call me on a mission" EVER. It was so awesome. And Their There (The only non-LDS) band there must have been really confused why everyone in the audience knew this song. Then as the encore, everyone got back on stage and sang Wake Up again.

Anyways, it was a really awesome night, filled with awesome music. We almost got a group together to go to Denny's, but Grant shot the idea down. Apparently he hates Denny's and the fact that mormons hang out there. Oh well. ENOUGH TYPING, MARISSA.

I love Sundays.

It's the only day I enjoy waking up early. It's always sunny on Sunday. I get to nap on Sunday. I listen to a lot of everclean on Sunday....

TODAY'S SONG is Getting Into You by Relient K.

I love it so so so much. And Alex, I know you do too, being a great fan of Relient K. Shosh, I don't remember if you do or not, but really... how could you not?

Funny story, I actually used this song in my final project for philosophy. I did a book about all I'd learned

God vs no God (blah blah blah) and I used this song in there somewhere.

The teacher was such a cool dude, and I was thinking for a minute that he would know the song. But he didn't. He thought I'd written it, haha. I wish.

So amazing.

6.6

Saturday.

Today should be good. Going to the mall. Then I'm going out with Paul to see Behind Sapphire, Their There, and Casino Junction at the plumbox. One of the Wards (Joseph, do you remember him?) is going on his mission so it's Casino Junction's last performance until he returns. And it's also a CD release party.

Which should make it exciting. I am very excited to go.

Today's song is 1000 times a day by the Early November. I really don't remember how I found out about this song, but who cares... I love it. And the story it tells is hilarious. To me, at least.

6.5

FRIDAY!

WOOT! Sorry it was late. It's finally here.

Happy weekend. Tomorrow I'm going back to the Shoe Warehouse because it's the last day of the job fair. I just want to be sure I give the resume to my manager so it doesn't get overlooked.  I hate job hunting. It was so much easier the last time.

ANYWHO, enough of me. Today's song is a good one. I hope it'll start the weekend off right.

The Boys, by Dragonette (HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHA)

... Ha.

6.4

It is Thursday.
Woot.
Not a lot of exciting things happen on Thursdays. I post a video, but that hasn't been exciting since the kidnapping.

Anywho, today's song is Cannonball by Damien Rice.

I heard this song a long time ago. Years agooo. When all my siblings and I still lived together and enjoyed music while we washed dishes.

At any rate, here's the video. I could only find it live and I think the album version is better so if you want, I can e-mail it to you.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

6.3

Wednesday!

It's also the first day of PANSED FAAS.

And I swear I did not plan this song for Shoshana's first day away, it just happened like that.

And it's hilarious. Not going to lie. I just thought there should be a faster song on Wednesday to sort of make it less boring and lazy.

So today's song is The Call by the Backstreet Boys. Enjoy. Also, the copyright disabled embedding on this video, but I highly recommend you go to youtube and watch the actual music video.

6.2

Before I start.... tomorrow, our dear Shoshana is leaving for Katimavik.

Which means I'll be doing PANSED FAAS (for alex and shosh) instead of just PANSED FA.

Either way, it sounds awesome phonetically.

Also, Shoshana, I am sorry you failed at comprehensive reading and then got your hopes up. I had every plan to go but there was no transport for me. And I felt it would be rude if Hailey picked me up and I said something like: "Actually, can you take me somewhere else? Yeah. Then you can pick me up tomorrow morning, and we'll spend the rest of the weekend together."

Know what I mean? It just doesn't happen. But Hailey and I had lots of fun! I had my first experience with caramel apples and then when I took some home, I got apple and sticky-ness all over my computer. So that was fun.

ANYWAYS. Today's song is Day Late Friend by Anberlin.

I found out about this because Hailey had a song on her Zune that she found on youtube and then I went to their youtube page and after clicking on some videos, found them covering this song (they did such a good job that it took me a while to get used to the original). Anywho, I enjoy the song. So here it is.

I couldn't put the actual video up because they disabled it. Again, stupid copyright. Oh well. Now you know what it says... complete with poor grammar.

Happy Tuesday.

Monday, October 5, 2009

6.1

Happy Monday! Again!

I hope you enjoyed your ridiculously long sleep-in. You should be getting a letter today or tomorrow (based on when I sent it)

So, the start of the sixth week. Today's song is called Rumored Nights and it's by The Academy Is...

I rather enjoy it, and it's better than the Veronicas, so there you go. Also, if I hadn't already written out the next two weeks for songs, there would be some Paramore. Unfortunately, I can't change next week either because next week is a themed week and paramore doesn't fit into the right category. Sigh. So two weeks from now, expect some new Paramore songs. Because they're awesome.

I guess someone made this music video set to the song. It's pretty cool, I guess.

Apple Crisp

A conversation I had today so I never forget it:

exception. says:
 I make nice apple crisp.
Mitchell says:
I tried once, failed, never did it again... damn grandmother's vague recipe.
Marissa - -              You are the only exception. says:
 it's not very hard.
Mitchell says:
How much is "a wineglass of brown sugar"?
Marissa - -              You are the only exception. says:
 HAHAHHAHAHAH

I Love Brains

This was the song of the day a while back, and I thought you'd be pleased to see the music video for it.

Sundayyy.

Okay, when I was in grade eight, I was sitting in science class, and we were listening to The Police, so everyone started talking about the band. Then, out of nowhere, this girl (total idiot, mind you) said: Sting is hot!

And all at once people reacted to that. Because he's old. I'm sure he was attractive at some point, but he's got to be sixty.

Anyways. The reason I brought that up is because today's song is by Sting. It has nothing to do with the story or anything, I was just reminded of that. Heh. Is Conference bilingual there, too?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7YShz4jxhA

Enjoy Sunday.

5.6

It's Saturday!

And I'm at Hailey's so all my posts until I get back home will be just links. Because my wireless doesn't work at her place.

Today's song is from one of the best movies ever, Once. And it's called All the Way Down. It was written (and performed) by Glen Hansard. I love it. And I think Marketa Irglova helped write it with him. She's the girl in the picture, and the other main character in the movie.

5.5

It's Friday again!

Joyous occasion. PANSED seems to make the week go by faster (at least for me).

I like having something to do every day. Speaking of things, tomorrow, Hailey is coming to fetch me because she is fantastic. And I am to be spending the weekend at her abode.

I was going to go to the ex-toga party. Now it's just a sleepover. But, of course, Shoshana will still probably wear a toga. I would have worn one too, if I could have gone. I had no way to get to Langley so Erika or Jenna couldn't come get me, and I couldn't get to Abby to walk. But then Hailey texted me, and I'm going to her place instead. For her burrfday. It's on Sunday.

I'm stalling. Because I'm almost ashamed of today's song. It's possibly worse than a Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus song.

But it's so dang catchy. Popular by the Veronicas.

It's a live version, but still pretty much the same.

Enjoy the weekend.

PS: I still stand by what I said about kidnapping your teacher.

Orange People: The undocumented, undervalued race.

I think it's time we spoke. About skanky things. The things I am about to list CAN and HAVE been done. But that doesn't mean they SHOULD be done.

1. Orange people. It's not sexy. It's definitely skanky.

2. Wearing thigh-high tights with s skirt or shorts SO SHORT that we can see the beginning AND end of the tights.

3. This is especially important, given that Halloween is coming up: Fishnets. Girls need to realize that these are never sexy. They're just really, really, trashy. I think if you're being ironic, it's a little funny. But it's not hot. It's definitely still slutty. Okay, the ones with really tiny holes are okay, because you can't tell those are fishnets until you're up close. And Alex, it wasn't slutty on you because you weren't wearing short shorts. You wore them under your prom dress. Large difference.

4. Anorexia isn't sexy. Please, eat a sandwich! Without throwing it up, because bulimia isn't hot either. I understand that anorexia and bulimia both stem from other problems like a need for control over something in your life, or perfectionism, or stress, or depression, or self-esteem. Which brings us to...

5. Low self esteem. I know that as people of this generation, we have to deal with things most people didn't. And I get that it's difficult to read a magazine or watch TV without wanting to look like that. But you can't think that way. You need to know that you are perfect the way you are. And I'm not saying to go around thinking you're God's gift to people, because that's not hot either. I'm just saying: respect yourself. Know that you're better than that, and have some sense of self-worth.

6. Paw (or hand) prints on boobs (or bums). Especially at a party. If you want to be groped, then go for it. But if you act surprised and outraged when someone touches your boob or your butt after this, you're an idiot.

7. "Juicy" and other words like that on your butt.

8. Drunkenness. I understand people like alcohol and they need to get drunk every so often to let off some steam. What I don't understand is this need to get drunk and advertise it all over facebook, or to get embarrassingly drunk - to the point of vomiting on the lawn and passing out on it - every single weekend. Know when to stop, people. It won't make anyone like you if you throw up on their favorite cat. Or in their purse. Or on them.

9. The combination of short skirts and winter boots. If it's cold outside, wear some pants. If it's hot outside, wear sandals. But mixing seasons is just trashy.

10. Bullying. I'm not talking about telling a douche that they're a douche. That's totally allowed. What I'm talking about is going up to a specific person and tearing them apart to make yourself feel better. It's just never cool. It doesn't make people respect you. It doesn't make people like you. It doesn't even make YOU like you.

The best way to feel good about yourself is to do nice things for others. It's been proven that giving compliments will boost your own self-image. So next time you want to feel good about yourself, try making someone else feel good about themselves.

11. Not accepting compliments. You may think you're trying to be humble, and you may not agree with the person, but if you don't accept a compliment, it makes the person giving the compliment feel like a total tool. Everyone's guilty of this. We feel like we're being pompous if we accept a compliment, or we feel that we have to return the compliment. Sometimes it's enough just to say thank you and move on. Only return a compliment if you truly mean it. People can sense when you're being insincere, and it won't earn you any points.

12. TAPOUT shirts. Please, just don't.

13. Pictures you photoshop so much that we can no longer recognize you as a person. Then going on to say you "just added a gaussian blur". If people say that to me, I don't care how many people are around, I will call them on it. I know what a Gaussian Blur is, and it does not make you look like Michael Jackson.

5.4

Thuursday!

Today's song is by one of my all-time favorites. I've loved them for so long I'd be really surprised if I haven't told you about them yet. They are Canadian, so you have to like them, haha.

This isn't the song I was going to choose for today, but I couldn't find the one I actually wanted on the youtube finder thing this editor has. So, anyways, this one is Crystine's favorite by them. Back in Your Head by Tegan and Sara.

The thing I love about them (other than the music, and everything) is that they don't have a designated lead singer. Basically, whoever writes the song, gets to sing it on the album and whenever they perform live. So, this one is Sara's song (I believe). I wasn't paying much attention. Anyways. Here it is. :)
